The hippies were a large countercultural movement in the 1960s and 1970s that rejected the mainstream idea of how you should live your life in the 20th century. The movement generated countless artists, art forms, ideas and came close to social change. But what the hippies failed to realize is that the people in power/the establishment came up with tricks of their own. They fooled the people that their goals were being achieved (racial, sexual equality). As long as the population lives comfortably, they won’t rebel, so the politicians elusively met their demands, but only to the point that they felt like something positive is happening. In reality, nothing changed. The military-industrial complex and corporations still rule the world. In the end, the movement lost its steam. People changed, graduated college, ”grew up” and became part of the establishment.
